Acne Healing Treatment

Acne is an all-too-common skin complaint that affects up to 80 percent of the population. When doctors refer to the term acne, they are describing those unsightly facial blemishes we know all too well as pimples, black heads and white heads. It is most often found of the face, but can also occur on the back, chest and arms. While many think of acne as a problem for teenagers and young adults, it can happy at any age.

Changes in the balance of hormones in teens and menstruating women can cause acne. Flare-ups happen when oil and bacteria clog up and infect hair follicles. The body's way of getting rid of this debris and dirt is to create a pimple.

A common acne treatment is bursting pimples at home. Poking, prodding and popping are quite irresistible to someone looking to clear their skin quickly. Unfortunately, this can lead to long-term scarring of the skin.

With any acne treatment, the aim is to assist in healing the complexion while preventing future acne breakouts. Health experts recommend cleansing acne areas twice daily with gentle soaps. Using a harsh cleanser should be avoided as it can leave the skin dried out and flaky.

Many non-prescription acne treatments are available. A large number of these formulas include benzoyl peroxide which is known as an anti-bacterial compound. This substance reduces infection in the area of the acne outbreak as well as ridding the skin of dead cells. A benzoyl peroxide acne treatment is an excellent preventative measure as it strengthens the skin and prevents clogged pores.

Time is an important factor in combating acne using an over the counter acne treatment. A good remedy may take months to have your skin noticeably clearing up.

However, if after a period of time you notice your acne worsening or not changing, you should make an appointment to see your MD. He or she may be able to offer valuable advice or forward you onto a skin specialist. Dermatologists have a wide-range of acne treatments that can assist.

While it may take time, never forget that there are acne treatments out there. This skin complaint is so much more than blemishes; it can damage your confidence and self-esteem.

Discovering the perfect acne treatment can repair your skin, prevent new outbreaks and help you find long-lost confidence. While it may take several attempts to obliterate acne once and for all, your mind and your body will thank you for it in the long run.
